What are your plans this Easter Sunday? We would love to see you at Journey Church! We’re a laid back Christian community that strives to teach the Bible clearly and obey it joyously. We’re currently meeting in the shopping center at 423 State St. in New Albany, IN. Come have some coffee, make some friends, and celebrate the good news with us!
At Journey, we emphasize what we believe is the very center of God’s plan for everything. That message starts with good news, moves into some bad news, and finishes with some really good news. The good news is you and I have been made in the image of God! God has shown more care and attention to you than you can possibly fathom. Every breath you take, every meal you enjoy, and every happiness you experience comes straight from His loving hand. And it’s all for His glory. In fact, you were created to glorify God and enjoy Him forever! That’s why we exist, and that’s good news because He is the greatest treasure anyone could have!
The bad news is, we have not glorified and enjoyed our creator. In our fallen state, instead of longing for intimacy with God, we love sinning against Him. We take things that don’t belong to us, tell lies, and love created things more than the Creator. Our thoughts and actions are hostile toward God, and He takes that seriously. He is a just judge. He will not allow sin to go unanswered for! And the just penalty for sin is the eternal, unending, holy wrath of God. We have a very real need to have our sinful hearts healed and our bad record forgiven!
So what’s the really good news? God, in His mercy, offers forgiveness to anyone who will turn from their sin and trust in Jesus Christ as their only hope of salvation. How can a just God forgive the guilty? Here’s how—God’s own perfectly sinless Son paid the penalty for sinners.
“And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.” (Colossians 2:13-14)
Jesus died on that cross, was buried, and rose from the dead three days later! Sin and death were defeated in the death of Christ, so the grave couldn’t hold Him! After appearing to many witnesses, Jesus was taken to His throne in heaven, where He waits to return and judge the world. So, what response does God require? He calls us to forsake our sins and humbly fall on Jesus as our only hope of salvation. In Jesus, we receive renewed hearts, and have our sins forgiven—eternally washed away in His blood!
That is the message of hope that we believe and love and joyfully proclaim at Journey. Why not come hang out with us this Easter Sunday—4/16 at 11:00 AM? You’ll get to hear more about our great God, who entered His own creation to save sinners like you and me! We’re here, we care about you, and we would love to get to know you and share more about the hope we’ve found in Jesus! See you soon!
